Tip!

You can also just add a few ounces of High Fructose Corn Syrup to a big bottle of the cheap, thin bubble solution sold at Walmart in big bottles in order to make your bubbles work better. Right now is the second week of August and Walmart is selling a year's stash of cheap bubble solution for $1 per quart bottle!

Giant Bubbles!

What did we do today? We made bubbles. Giant bubbles. 

Yesterday we were in Walmart. And I saw giant bubble wands. On sale for $5.00 instead of $9.98. Naturally, I bought two. It reminded me of when my husband, son Cad and I went to NYC and walked around for about eight hours when Cad was about eighteen months old. He was at that phase where kids are walking on their own but can’t completely do it yet. 

So, we had to alternate carrying him. Until he fell asleep. And, then we continued alternating carrying him until we go to the train, rode to our car and drove home. Wow, that was fun! 

Exhausting, but fun! 

Today, to get my middle and youngest children we called those big bubbles dragon bubbles. To get them to play outside longer, we had a competition to see who could make the longest ones.

Why did I call them dragon bubbles? Well, back in NYC in Central Park during the day we saw people making bubbles up to about eight feet long. Shimmering in the September summer light.

Insanely long, right?

Of course, we experimented with the amounts. But, this made a really good bubble without breaking too fast. We will be doing further experimentation to improve the recipe. But, we were able to make 180 degree spins that popped easily after being made, gigantic bubbles, etc. 

RECIPES:

Giant Bubbles Recipe

14 cups water

1.5 cups corn syrup

2/3 cup corn starch

1 ½ - 2 cups of Dawn Heavy Duty Pots and Pans Formula Dish Detergent

Better Bubbles Recipe!

Mix 4 quarts Cheap Bubble solution plus 2-3 cups High Fructose Corn Syrup.
